Lower Dolpo Trek

Are you passionate about challenging trekking in Nepal? If yes then Lower Dolpo Trek is meant for real adventurers wishing for an untouched valley’s experience. This remote region in western Nepal was opened for the foreigners only in 1990 and also the most beautiful and remote areas of the Nepal. Oscar nominated documentary ‘Caravan’ which was released in August 20, 1999 was filmed in this region. The trek passes through Shey-Phoksundo National Park with spectacular mountain scenery, Buddhist monasteries and yak caravans, rugged, barren plateau near the border with Tibet.


Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu
After arriving in Kathmandu representative of Nepal Trekking Trial will pick up you by our private vehicle and transfer you to the Hotel. Overnight in Kathmandu
Day 02: Sightseeing around Kathmandu
After breakfast in the morning we go for the Kathmandu sightseeing tour. Sight-seeing around Kathmandu valley which includes the Hindu temple, Pashupatinath (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) & the biggest Buddhist Stupa at Boudhanath. Also visit Monkey Temple the Swyambhunath (2000 years old Stupa) and visit Patan city of fine arts and finally back to hotel. Overnight in Kathmandu
Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj: 1 hour
After taking a flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, we will roam around the city in leisure time. Overnight in Nepalgunj
Day 04: Fly from Nepalgunj to Jhupal (Dolpo) (2,320m/7,610ft) and trek to Dunai (2,850m/9,348ft)
After breakfast we will take a flight to Jhupal. Jhupal is a town which is located over the Himalayan foothills. Then we start to trek through terraced fields to the Bheri River to reach Dunai. Dunai is the administrative headquarter of the Dolpo region. Overnight in Dunai
Day 05: Dunai to Tarakot (2,543m/8,341ft): 5-6 hours
After breakfast we will continue our trek along the bank of the Bheri River. On the way we pass through several deep gorges, bridges and villages to reach Tharkot. It will take about 5-6 hours to reach Tharkot from Dunai. Overnight in Tarakot
Day 06: Tarakot to Laini (3,160 m/10,365 ft): 6-7 hours
Today we walk through several rivers and Gompas to reach Laini from Tarakot which will take about 6-7 hours. Overnight in Laini
Day 07: Laini to Nawarpani (3,545m/11,627 ft): 5-6 hours
Today on the 6th day or our Lower Dolpo Trek we will climb on a vertical trail and walk above the Tarap River. The walk will be quite intreasting and exciting when we walk through banks of the Chyugur Khola, from where we will reach Nawarpani. Overnight in Nawarpani
Day 08: Nawarpani to Do Tarap (4,090m/13,415ft): 7-8 hours
Today after having breakfast we will trek from Nawarpani to Do Tarap, by passing Kamattarka, Tarap Chu, and Lang Khola on the way. Overnight in Do Tarap
Day 09: Rest Day at Do Tarap for acclimatization
Today we will take rest in Do Tarap, in afternoon we can spend the time visiting nearby monasteries and familiarize with the local culture. Overnight in Do Tarap
Day 10: Trek to Numa La Base Camp (4440m/14,563 ft): 6-7 hours walk
Today we will trek towards the upper Tarap valley, walk alongside Tarap Chu river and reach to Tokyu village. After exploring the monastery in Tokyu village, we continue our trek to reach the Numa La Base Camp. Overnight in Numa La Base Camp
Day 11: Cross Numa La pass (5,190m/17,023ft), camp at Pelung Tang (4465m/14,645 ft): 6-7 hours
Today is we will a bit busy and hurry because today we is the longest trekking trial of our whole trek about 6-7 hours walking. Early in the morning after having breakfast, we will get to the top of Numa La by crossing Numa La pass and finally we will descend down to camp at Pelung Tang. Overnight in Pelung Tang
Day 12: Cross Baga La pass (5,070m/16,630ft), trek to Dajok Tang (4,080m/13,382ft): 6 hours
After breakfast we begin our trek and vertical climb up to the top of Baga La pass. After having mesmerizing views from the top we will descend to Dajok Tang. Overnight in Dajok Tang
Day 13: Dajok Tang to Ringmo (3,600m/11,808ft): 3-4 hours
After 3-4 hours walk we will reach to our next stop which is Ringmo village, it is a traditional Tibetan village of the Dolpo region. Overnight in Ringmo
Day 14: Hike to Phoksundo Lake
Today we will take a hike to Phosksundo Lake from Ringmo. During the hike we can also tour nearby monasteries. Overnight in Shey Phoksundo Lake
Day 15: Phoksundo Lake to Shyanta (2520m/8265 ft): 5-6 hours walk
After having breakfast we will trek downhill to Chepka and some other villages to reach Shyanta which will take about 5-6 hours walk. Overnight in Shyanta
Day 16: Shyanta to Jhupal
Today from Shyanta we trek towards Jhupal via Sulighat. From Sulighat, we can get the most spectacular views of the mountain above us and Jhupal Village below. In jhupal can we can spend our afternoon roaming around the town. Overnight in Jhupal
Day 17: Fly to Nepalgunj, fly to Kathmandu
We will take a early flight from Jhupal to Nepalgunj and after reaching to Nepalgunj we will return to Kathmandu by another flight. Free day in Kathmandu, Overnight in Kathmandu
Day 18: Final departure
A representative from Nepal Trekking Trial will transfer you to the airport before two hours from your flight with lots of a hope of seeing you again in the future.

Not Included

  • Nepal Visa fee USD25 for 15 days, USD40 for 30 days or if extending your stay USD100 for 90 days. All are multiple entries. You will also need a passport photo. The visa fee can be paid in US Dollars, Pounds Sterling or Euros. (bring accurate USD cash and two passport photographs)
  • International flight ticket to arrive in Kathmandu
