Mustang Tiji Festival Trek

Tiji festival trek is cultural trekking in Upper Mustang, the country of ‘Lo’ community.  Upper Mustang Tiji festival trek is a three-day ritual known as “The chasing of the Demons” and it is centered on the Tiji myth. Tiji tells the story of a deity named Dorje Jono who must battle against his demon father to save the Kingdom of Mustang from destruction.


Day 01: Arrival day in Kathmandu [1,300m/4,264 ft]
After arriving in Kathmandu representative of Nepal Trekking Trial will pick up you by our private vehicle and transfer you to the Hotel. Overnight in Kathmandu
Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour
After breakfast in the morning we go for the Kathmandu sightseeing tour. Sight-seeing around Kathmandu valley which includes the Hindu temple, Pashupatinath (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) & the biggest Buddhist Stupa at Boudhanath. Also visit Monkey Temple the Swyambhunath (2000 years old Stupa) and visit Patan city of fine arts and finally back to hotel. Overnight in Kathmandu
Day 03: Flight or Drive to Pokhara
Early in the morning after having breakfast we will take a ride to the lake city, Pokhara following Trishuli River. Afternoon can be enjoyed by the lake as the hotel is located near to the lake. (5-6 hours drive). Stay Overnight at hotel in Pokhara
Day 04: Pokhara fly to Jomsom and trek to Kagbeni (2,858m)
After having breakfast we will take a flight early in the morning to Jomsom which is about 25minutes. After reaching in Jomsom we will move on trekking to Kagbeni. During trekking we can picturesque peaks of Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri, Tukuche Peak and Dhampus are spectacular all the way. Kagbeni provides its narrow alleyways and tunnels, irrigation canals, green fields of wheat and barley. Overnight in Kagbeni
Day 05: Kagbeni to Chele (3050m) 5-6 hrs
Today our journey starts with a special permit check up in Kali Gandaki River. Our trek now leaves the Kali Gandaki valley and ascends steeply up a rocky mountain to reach Chele. Overnight in Chele
Day 06: Chele to Ghiling (3806m): 6-7 hours
Today we will climb to Taklam La Pass through plateaus. On the way there is narrow stretches with views of Tilicho Peak, Yakawa Kang and Damodar Danda. The trail then drops to the whitewashed buildings of Ghiling. Overnight in Ghiling
Day 07: Ghiling to Charang (3575m): Walking Distance 4-5 hours
Today after having our breakfast we will trek from Ghiling to the village Charang which will take about 4-5 hours. Overnight in Charang
Day 08: Charang to Lo- Manthang (3700m): 5-6 hours
Today after having our breakfast we will trek from Charang to Lo- Manthang (3700m) which will take about 5-6 hours. Overnight in Lo-Manthang
Day 09-10-11: Tiji Festival (May 15 -16 - 17)
From Today tiji festival starts so we enjoy the cultural and natural sector of this region. The festival is a three-day ritual known as "The chasing of the Demons" and it is centered on the Tiji myth. So we will be busy for three days by celebrating the festival
Day 12: Lo-Manthang to Ghami via Lo-Geker (3520m): 6 hours
Now, we will return to Ghami from Lo-Manthang. On the way we will cross the Chogo La (4325m), the highest point on this trek. The trail finally drops to the whitewashed buildings of Ghami. Ghami is a village which is surrounded by large fields most of them are barren. Overnight in Ghami
Day 13: Ghami to Samar (3520m): 5 hours
Today we will trek down from Ghami to Samar by walking about 5 hours. Samar is small village with nice terraces and people over there follow the Tibetan lifestyle and tradition. Overnight in Samar
Day 14: Samar to Kagbeni (2,858m): 6 hours
Today while trekking from Samar to Kagbeni we will mostly walk along the bank of Kali Gandaki River with the views of natural vegetation and apple farming to Kagbeni. Overnight in Kagbeni
Day 15: Kagbeni to Jomsom (2700): Walking Distance 3 hours
Today we will descents below to reach Jomsom through the beautiful landscapes. It will take about 3 hours to decent Jomsom from Kagbeni. Overnight in Jomsom
Day 16: Jomsom to Pokhara by flight
After taking breakfast early in the morning, we will take a short walk to airport and fly back to Pokhara. Overnight in Pokhara
Day 17: Drive to Kathmandu
After breakfast drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu which will take approximately 5-6 hours. Then transfer to Hotel. Afternoon free at Kathmandu Hotel
Day 18: Final departure
A representative from Nepal Trekking Trial will transfer you to the airport before two hours from your flight with lots of a hope of seeing you again in the future.

  • Full board meals BLD ( breakfast, lunch, and Dinner) during the trek as per available food menu in tea houses/Lodges

  • Teahouse/Lodge accommodation during trek on twin sharing basic (will provide single bedroom where ever available if you traveling solo travelers)

Not Included

  • Nepal Visa fee USD25 for 15 days, USD40 for 30 days or if extending your stay USD100 for 90 days. All are multiple entries. You will also need a passport photo. The visa fee can be paid in US Dollars, Pounds Sterling or Euros. (bring accurate USD cash and two passport photographs)
  • International flight ticket to arrive in Kathmandu
  • Entrance fee/ monument heritage site fee/ museum fee while sightseeing around Kathmandu valley
  • Excess baggage charges( 15kg allowed ok Kathmandu Lukla flight ) 1kg = $1 USD
