Are you planning to trek in western hidden valley of Nepal? If yes then the package organize by Nepal Trekking Trail, Upper Dolpo Trek is meant for real adventurers wishing for an untouched valley’s experience. Dolpo is also called “Ba Yul” or the Hidden valley is a land of mystery, scenery and peace. This remote region in western Nepal was opened for the foreigners only in 1990 and also the most beautiful and remote areas of the Nepal. Oscar nominated documentary ‘Caravan’ which was released in August 20, 1999 was filmed in this region. The trek passes through Shey-Phoksundo National  plateau near the border with Tibet. The view of Kanjiroba peak, Phoksumdo Lake, and the Dhauligiri massif is one of the most rewarding moments of this trek.

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu
After arriving in Kathmandu representative of Nepal Trekking Trial will pick up you by our private vehicle and transfer you to the Hotel. Overnight in Kathmandu
Day 02: Sightseeing around Kathmandu
After breakfast in the morning we go for the Kathmandu sightseeing tour. Sight-seeing around Kathmandu valley which includes the Hindu temple, Pashupatinath (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) & the biggest Buddhist Stupa at Boudhanath. Also visit Monkey Temple the Swyambhunath (2000 years old Stupa) and visit Patan city of fine arts and finally back to hotel. Overnight in Kathmandu
Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj: 1 hour
After taking a flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, we will roam around the city in leisure time. Overnight in Nepalgunj
Day 04: Fly from Nepalgunj to Jhupal (Dolpo) (2,320m/7,610ft) and trek to Dunai (2,850m/9,348ft)
After breakfast we will take a flight to Jhupal. Jhupal is a town which is located over the Himalayan foothills. Then we start to trek through terraced fields to the Bheri River to reach Dunai. Dunai is the administrative headquarter of the Dolpo region. Overnight in Dunai
Day 05: Dunai to Ankhe (2,896m/9,499ft): 5-6 hours
Today on the 5th day of Upper Dolpo Trek we will leave Dunai to reach Ankhe. On the way we climb up the side of the plant less, Thulo Bheri valley and then we enter Phoksundo river valley. Overnight in Ankhe
Day 06: Ankhe to Sulighat: 5-6 hours
After walking about 5-6 hours from Ankhe we finally reach Sulighat. On the way we ascend and descend until we reach Sulighat. Overnight in Suligaht
Day 07: Sulighat to Phoksundo Lake (3,611m/11,849 ft) 4-5 hours
After having breakfast we will continue our journey from Sulighat by crossing bridge, rivers, forests, villages and waterfalls we reach to Shey Phoksundo Lake. Overnight at Phoksundo Lake
Day 08: Acclimatization and rest at Phoksundo Lake
Today we will take a rest day for acclimatization at Phoksundo Lake. On the day time we will take a short hike to the village of Ringmo and we will visit Tibetan Buddhist Monastery where we can be familiarize with the local culture and finnaly get back to Phoksundo Lake. Overnight at Phoksundo Lake
Day 09: Trek to Phoksundo Khola: 4-5 hours
Today we will trek for about 4-5 hours to reach Phoksundo Khola from Phoksundo Lake. Overnight in Phoksundo Khola
Day 10: Phoksunds Khola to Phoksundo Bhanjyang: 6-7 hours
After walking about 6-7 hours from Phoksundo Khola we finally reach to Phoksundo Bhanjyang. On the way a hard climb to the top will takes to another valley from where we can see the Kang-La pass and can have beautiful the views of Chhamlang peak 6 (6739m) and peak 7 (6105m). Overnight in Phoksundo Bhanjyang
Day 11: Phoksundo Bhanjyang to Shey Gompa (4,500m/14,760ft) via Kang-La pass (5,360m/17,581ft): 5-6 hours
In the morning after having breakfast, we will climb up on a vertical trail towards the pass Kang-La pass. From the top of Kang-la pass we can have a great view of the large valley down the river. We climb down to the valley floor on a vertical trail and cross river to reach the Shey Gompa. Overnight in Shey Gompa
Day 12: Acclimatization and rest at Shey Gompa
Today we take rest in Shey Gompa for acclimatization purpose. We will spend the day by hiking around Shey village. Overnight in Shey Gompa
Day 13: Shey Gompa to Namduna Gaun (4,800m/15,744ft) via Saldang La (5,200m/17,056ft): 6-7 hours
Today from Shey Gompa we will trek through a grey, stony canyon which takes us to the top of Saldang-la pass and finally we will arrive to Namduna Gaun where we will visit Namgung monastery. Overnight in Namuda Gaun
Day 14: Namduna Gaun to Saldang (3,620m/ 11,874ft): 4-5 hours
Today on the 14th day or our Upper Dolpo Trek we will leave Namduna Gaun and ascends up a slope and walk through dusty barren mountains and finally we strikes in Saldang village. Saldang village is the largest village in the inner Dolpo area. Overnight in Saldang
Day 15: Saldang to Yangze Gompa (4,960m/16,267ft): 4-5 hours
After having breakfast from Saldang, we will continue our trek along the Nagon Khola. On the way, we pass through some villages like Marang and Ki villages and rivers to reach Yangze gompa. Overnight in Yangze Gompa
Day 16: Yangze Gompa to Sibu (4,560m/14,957ft): 6-7 hours
From Yangze, we will find two trails that connect to Sibu. In order to save time we will go through the path back towards Saldang village. From Saldang we will walk through terraced fields, stupas, chortens, heaps of mani stones and a Chaiba monastery, then finally reach in the Namdo village and walking short from Namdo village to arrive in Nam Khong Khola. I will take about 2 hours to reach Sibu. Overnight in Sibu
Day 17: Sibu to Jeng-la Phedi (4,900m/16,072ft): 5-6 hours
Today we will walk along the Nam Khong Khola and next we will take straight trail and climb to Jeng La pass (4,900m/16,072ft).Overngiht in Jeng la Phedi
Day 18: Jeng-la Phedi to Tokyu Gaon (4209m/13809ft) via Jeng La pass (5,090m/16,695ft): 5-6 hours
We will get up early and trek to the top of the Jeng La pass from where we get beautiful views of the north face of the Mt. Dhaualgiri. After having some time on the top we will descend down to the Tarap Valley and finally reach Tokyu village via Tarap Chu River. Overnight in Tokyu village
Day 19: Tokyu to Dho Tarap(4,040m/13,251ft): 4-5 hours
Today we will trek from Tokyu to Dho Tarap which will take about 4-5 hours. Both the Bon Po and Buddhist sects are practiced in this valley. After taking a short trek, we will arrive at Dho Tarap. Overnight in Dho Tarap
Day 20: Rest Day at Dho Tarap
Today on the 20th day of our Upper Dolpo Trek, we will take our second rest day. Today we will spend our day resting and roaming around the village of Dho Tarap. Today, we can visit a Buddhist Gompa and Bon Po Gompa. Overnight in Dho Tarap
Day 21: Dho Tarap to Tarap Khola (Kamakharka) (3,800m/12,464ft): 6-7 hours
Today after having breakfast early in the morning we will trek from Dho Tarap to Tarap Khola (Kamakharka) which will take about 6-7 hours to reach there. Overnight in Karmakharka
Day 22: Tarap Khola to Khanigaon(3,150m/10,332ft): 4-5 hours
We continue our walking through the Tarap River to Khanigaon. Finally, after walking about 4-5 hours we will reach our camping spot beside the Tarap Khola at Khanigaon . Overnight in Khanigaon
Day 23: Khanigaon to Tarakot (2,537m/8,321ft): 4-5 hours
Today from the Khanigaon we will make a move to Tarakot, on the way we will pass through village of Lalberi, forest, gorges, and rivers. After reaching Tarakot, we will visit Sandul Gompa. Overnight in Tarakot
Day 24: Tarakot to Dunai (2,140m/7,019ft): 5-6 hours
After breakfast we will continue our trek along the bank of the Bheri River. On the way we pass through several deep gorges, bridges and villages to reach Dunai. It will take about 5-6 hours to reach Dunai from Tharkot. Overnight in dunnai
Day 25: Dunai to Jhuphal: 2-3 hours
After breakfast, we start to trek through terraced fields to the Bheri River to reach Jhupal from Dunai. Dunai is the administrative headquarter of the Dolpo region and Jhupal is a town which is located over the Himalayan foothills. Overnight in Jhupal
Day 26: Fly from Jhuphal to Nepalgunj and then to Kathmandu
Today we will take a early flight from Jhupal to Nepalgunj. After reaching in Nepalgunj, we will take another flight to Kathmandu on the next available flight. Overnight in Kathmandu
Day 27: Kathmandu
After breakfast in the morning we go for the Kathmandu sightseeing tour. Day 28: Final departure
A representative from Nepal Trekking Trial will transfer you to the airport before two hours from your flight with lots of a hope of seeing you again in the future.

  • Nepal Visa fee USD25 for 15 days, USD40 for 30 days or if extending your stay USD100 for 90 days. All are multiple entries. You will also need a passport photo. The visa fee can be paid in US Dollars, Pounds Sterling or Euros. (bring accurate USD cash and two passport photographs)
  • International flight ticket to arrive in Kathmandu
